As the demand for nurses grows, Galen College of Nursing is dedicated to meeting the needs of our students and the communities we serve.  Galen is committed to supporting the San Antonio community, not only through quality nursing education, but in workforce development and excellence in healthcare.  With a mission to expand opportunity in nursing, Galen is excited to introduce a completely renovated and expanded nursing education facility which encompasses nearly 70,000 square feet.  Along with a strong Vocational Nursing program and an LVN to RN Bridge program that allows Licensed Vocational Nurses to take the next step in their nursing careers, we have also introduced a 3-Year Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Program which offers an innovative educational approach that allows students to get into the workforce faster without sacrificing quality education.

Founded over 25 years ago, Galen College of Nursing is one of the largest private nursing schools in the United States. Galen was established by Humana in 1989 with a single purpose: to offer excellence in nursing education. Humana, which at that time was positioned as one of the largest insurance providers and healthcare systems in the country, developed practical/vocational nursing programs in response to a severe national nursing shortage.  Galen became an independent educational organization upon the dissolution of the Humana hospital system.

Galen is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and provides nursing education to over 1,200 students on its San Antonio campus and over 4,500 across all campus locations, supporting healthcare needs as exemplars of excellence in nursing education.

Along with the new 3-year Baccalaureate nursing program, Galen has strengthened the environment and programs that support its students, with more modern classroom facilities and advanced technology in simulation labs. Galen has also doubled the size and resources of the Nancy K. Maebius student resource center.

We hope you’ll join us not only to see, first-hand, the wonderful things going on at Galen, but to help us celebrate a commitment to our students, San Antonio, and excellence in education and health care in our communities!
