The North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is committed to our mission of keeping Bexar County strong through the delivery of advocacy, networking, recognition, leadership and professional development programs. As we move past the mid-point of 2016 and are fully into the summer months, I hope that everyone is taking the opportunity to enjoy some much deserved time away from work with family and friends. We at the North Chamber continue to stay focused on fulfilling our mission and remain particularly fixed on our involvement in local issues that affect your businesses, families and quality of life. We continue to connect with city and local opportunities throughout San Antonio, and we want to make sure that you continue to stay engaged and up-to-date on your unique benefits as a member.

August Chairman’s Council Event
On August 4th the North SA Chamber will host a Chairman’s Council event with the new President and CEO of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, Jenna Saucedo-Herrera. In late June, Jenna was selected from seven replacements considered for Mario Hernandez, who retired earlier in the month from SAEDF. Join Jenna as she provides insight into her responsibility for advancing the diversification and growth of San Antonio’s regional economy through domestic and international business development, partnerships, and market strategies. In addition to her role of leading the principal regional economic development organization, she is also charged with leveraging her understanding of San Antonio’s authentic heritage and unique value proposition to attract new businesses and support the growth and expansion of local companies. Chairman’s Council events are offered exclusively for Chairman’s Council members and the North SA Chamber’s Board of Directors. For more information on how you can be a part of the Chairman’s Council or to RSVP for the event, contact the North SA Chamber at (210) 344-4848.

Leader as a Decision-Maker & Negotiator
We remain fixed on preparing the next generation of leaders through our flagship leadership and professional development program, Leadership Lab. In this month’s session, students learned skills for decision making and negotiating. In the morning, Don Zmick, Petroleum Engineer and Finance Consultant, provided students with techniques for making complex decisions. Our Leadership and Professional Development Council Chair, Melodye Tomsu of SpawGlass, lead a group decision making exercise called “None of us is as smart as all of us”. Following Tomsu’s exercise was Attorney-Mediator and Adjunct Law Professor, Don Philbin’s presentation on how to “Improve Negotiated Outcomes”. Students wrapped up the day hearing important lessons on “High Stake Negotiations” and rational thinking under crisis from FBI San Antonio Special Agent, Joanne Morales. We’d like to extend a special thank you to Texas A&M San Antonio for hosting our session as well as this session’s sponsor, Capital Group. If you want to learn more about our Leadership Lab program, please contact Marilyn White at mwhite@northsachamber.com or (210)384-7722.

New Development in North San Antonio?
The City of San Antonio’s planning committee is considering a project for the development of land on the north side of San Antonio right off of Interstate 10 and UTSA Boulevard. Local developer Steve Sanders envisions the development as a place where people can live, eat, work, play and shop. North SA Chamber Executive Vice President of Business Development & Government Affairs, Cristina Aldrete was featured in a news story by News 4 San Antonio saying, “We have about 1.9 million people in San Antonio now, and we are expecting another 1 million in 2040…so developments like this are a great asset to help build and prepare for that time in 2040." The North SA Chamber is an advocate for issues that we feel will develop our economy, member businesses and community. We encourage you to get more involved on these issues by attending Government Affairs meetings and voicing your opinion. You can see the full article by News 4 San Antonio by clicking here.
