The North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is committed to our mission of keeping Bexar County strong through the delivery of advocacy, networking, recognition, leadership and professional development programs. Over the last month, we’ve held a sold out CIO Panel on Computer Information and Security, a State of the County Address by Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and a Leadership Lab session on Emotional Intelligence hosted by Alterman Electric. Moving into June, we have more opportunities for leadership, professional development and recognition. I encourage you to find your place of participation and stay involved.

State of the County Address
On Friday, May 20th, the North SA Chamber hosted a packed house for the 11th annual State of the County Address featuring County Judge Nelson Wolff. Judge Wolff paid tribute to San Antonio’s advances in technology, history and culture over the last several years – mentioning the addition of Google Fiber, the updated Witte Museum and Uber as several examples. Since July 2015, 35,000 jobs have been added and the unemployment rate has dropped to 3.7%. While the support of these industries has certainly contributed to this statistic, he noted that there is still work to be done. Wolff encouraged the audience to continue to cultivate young leaders by offering internship programs and developments that attract and maintain young talent – placing a strong emphasis on his desire to attract the city’s first Major League Soccer franchise in the next round of league expansion. He wrapped up his speech speaking to the other cultural investments our city has made and needs to continue to support institutions like the San Antonio Symphony. Audience members had the opportunity to listen to the San Antonio Symphony String Quartet while responding to some live poll questions. If you missed this event, check out Judge Wolff’s full speech on KSAT.com here. The 2016 Enterprising Women’s Conference is right around the corner on June 30, 2016. This half-day professional development conference will feature a number of exceptional speakers, robust networking opportunities and the presentation of the ATHENA Leadership Awards. Did you know that the North SA Chamber is the only host organization to present all three ATHENA International Award categories in the state of Texas? For those attending the conference from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., CPE credits will be available. Join us for the half-day and you will hear a morning keynote by business coach and author, Kelly Gilpin and learning sessions from Bexar County Sheriff, Susan Pamerleau and managing director and investment advisor, Elizabeth Crawford. You may also register for the luncheon portion only to see the presentation of the ATHENA Awards and hear a keynote by first female U.S. Secret Service Agent, award-winning journalist and community advocate, Kathryn Clark Childers. This year both the development and planning committees have worked very hard to bring something fresh and new to the conference using this year’s theme “Waves of Change… Oceans of Opportunity.” You may register by calling (210) 344-4848 or visiting the online registration page.

Cybersecurity
Did you know San Antonio is leading the way in cybersecurity education and protocol? Our 2016 CIO luncheon featured keynote speaker Gary Dudley, President of SWBC and a distinguished panel of four at the newly renovated Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in conjunction with the Innotech Conference. The speakers addressed critical cybersecurity breach issues such as preventing breaches without blocking real customers, detecting when it happens and responding, and containing the attack effectively. In June, the North SA Chamber wants to continue this effort by bringing together top experts from government, law enforcement and the private sector to help small and mid-sized businesses address cybersecurity threats to their businesses. Join us in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Texas Business Administration and San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, June 28th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Riverwalk hotel. The event will provide best practices, tools and tips for strengthening a cybersecurity program, and ways to partner with law enforcement before security incidents occur, among other cyber related topics.

Our programming is designed to give you a wide range of topics, speakers and opportunities for participation and growth but most importantly, we want to be your advocate and give you a voice. Thank you for your membership and all that you do to make San Antonio a great place to live and work. We look forward to seeing you in June!
