San Antonio International Airport is Soaring High with the Latest Industry News: All-Time Record Growth with More Than 900,000 Passengers in a Month

San Antonio (August 24, 2018) - According to the latest airline reports, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is setting records in the month of July in passenger growth, domestic traffic, international traffic and cargo moved through the airport.

July was the first time SAT reached an all-time record new number of 933,290 passengers, a remarkable increase of 10% or over 84,000 additional passengers during the same month last year. July’s growth continued to boost calendar year-to-date totals at 9.5% which is expected to climb with 11 new flights that began in August.

Domestically, travel for the month climbed over 9% compared to July 2017. The increase is attributed to the addition of new carriers and routes on American, Southwest and Frontier. Internationally, the news is even more spectacular. Traffic soared over 16% or 53,194 passengers, the first time to reach that level since July 2015 and the second highest monthly level on record for international passengers.

Additionally, SAT experienced a significant increase in cargo, processing more than 22,000,000 pounds of cargo. The number represents an extraordinary 15% increase from year-to-year. This is the fourth time this year the airport has experienced a double-digit increase, and the 12th consecutive month of growth for cargo.

The recent growth at SAT reflects an ongoing trend of progress at the airport in its effort to retain current and attain new air service with multiple routes added in the past two years and record passengers for the past two consecutive years.

SAT is currently on pace to exceed 10 million passengers in 2018.
