Shred documents for free at Security Service shred day October 17

Security Service Federal Credit Union will host a free San Antonio area shred day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, at its Rigsby branch, 2022 Southeast Loop 410.
The event is designed to assist area residents with the safe and free disposal of unwanted, personal documents. “There’s no time like the present to permanently and securely get rid of documents containing sensitive information like bank and credit card statements, old tax returns or documents containing account numbers, Social Security numbers, or other identifiable information. It’s good for the individual and our environment,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, vice president of public relations for the credit union.
People can drive up and drop off bags and boxes of paper for shredding only. Limit two 18”x20”x12” full boxes per household. Volunteers from Security Service will help with unloading, and all documents will be shredded on site by Recall.
The IRS recommends saving tax returns for at least three years after the date of filing. There are some circumstances when tax documents should be kept longer than three years. Check the IRS website ( for details. Never shred official documents, such as Social Security cards or birth certificates.
