Respite Care of San Antonio will host its annual dinner and fundraiser, "A Celebration of Love & Children" on Thursday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the beautiful Valero Vistas, located at Valero Energy Headquarters, One Valero Way. Tom Dobson and his family are this year's honorees and are being recognized for their ongoing support of children. Dobson is the chairman of Whataburger, the iconic restaurant chain and brand founded in 1950 by his father. Under Dobson's guidance, Whataburger has grown to nearly 800 stores in 10 states, with 35,000 'Family Members' who are involved in their local communities. Chairs for the event are Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford and wife Beth, along with Community Bible Church Pastor Emeritus Robert Emmitt and wife Julie. Individual tickets are $250 each; sponsorships including a table of 10, are $5,000 for Gold; $10,000 for Platinum; and $25,000 for Presenting Sponsor. 2016 marks the 14th year of this special event that celebrates all children, but especially those with developmental disabilities and complex medical conditions, the population served by Respite Care. Its services are delivered  through emergency shelters licensed to care for children with special needs (the only two in Texas), a six-days-a-week developmental daycare, temporary care programs located throughout the community, and several Respite Family Homes that provide extended foster care for children who can no longer stay in the shelters nor return to the homes from which they were removed into state's protective custody. All services are also provided to siblings of the children with special needs.
